The days of the week in Japanese are formed by combining a prefix, which represents celestial or natural elements, with the suffix "曜日" (youbi), meaning "day of the week."

    Prefix Symbols:

    • 月 (gets(u)) = Moon (Monday)
    • 火 (ka) = Fire (Tuesday)
    • 水 (sui) = Water (Wednesday)
    • 木 (moku) = Wood/Tree (Thursday)
    • 金 (kin) = Gold/Metal (Friday)
    • 土 (do) = Earth (Saturday)
    • 日 (nichi) = Sun (Sunday)

Together, these prefixes and the suffix "曜日" create the names of the days in Japanese, such as 月曜日 (Getsuyoubi) for Monday and 日曜日 (Nichiyoubi) for Sunday.

In Japanese, the months of the year are formed by combining Kanji numbers (representing 1 to 12) with the Kanji ("gatsu", meaning "month").

    General Rule:

Each month in Japanese is expressed as

[Number in Kanji] + 月 (Gatsu).
月 (Gatsu) means "month" and is added after the number to indicate which month it is.

    Special Notes:

    • April (四月): The number 4 can be pronounced as "shi" or "yon", but in months, it’s always "shi" → Shigatsu.
    • July (七月): The number 7 can be pronounced as "shichi" or "nana", but in months, it’s always "shichi" → Shichigatsu.
    • September (九月): The number 9 can be pronounced as "kyuu" or "ku", but in months, it’s always "ku" → Kugatsu.
